Just brooding hardcore that rages with ferocity, it would give a Norwegian black metal goon a case of fudge-laden Fruit Of The Looms. the songs channels the ravenous aggression of almost-forgotten Canadian hardcore kings UNION OF URANUS and the BLACK HAND, both bands who clearly had metal in their hardcore before the term "metalcore" held about as much weight as "I promise." first they released a demo, then came their first 7", and after that came their demo as a 7" - all of them very well received by me and I dare to say a large number of punks worldwide. In late 2007 they visited the studio again and returned with the twelve tracks that became this LP/CD.
Charged with emotional melodies and punk attitude they've once again created songs that are impossible to listen to without getting completely sucked in to. I've in earlier reviews said that their lyrics are poetic, but that is also true about their music and the structures of their songs. It's very poppy at times and all this rambling about emotions and poetry might scare away some real hardcore d-beaters, but to avoid any misunderstanding I want to make it perfectly clear that this is without a doubt punk. Punk in a pure and danceable form. Punk to which you can shake your ass while clenching your fist - not in anger but with dedication. The Assassinators makes me believe we can actually change the world to the better, even though they do address some dark topics in their lyrics as well. Still, this band gets me motivated to do what I think is best for myself and others and are doing so while providing one hell of a soundtrack.

Their "demo" cd hit me by surprise and I really couldn't refuse to put this out! These folks come from Gothenburg in lovely Sweden and deliver the goods! The demo (minus 1 song though) that you'll find on this black piece of vinyl hold 4 times thundering death and black metal soaked doom, with hints of crust, as well as atmospheric and epic darkness. The guitars range from devastating heaviness to gloomy acoustic sections, with piercing leads that flash through the darkness every now and then. If you've ever wanted to know exactly how your favourite metal, crust, and doom bands would have sounded like if they were one band this is where you should turn. I won't namedrop anything, just ask you to take me on my word that you really need to check this out if you've been even the slightest intrigued with what's written above. Even though I could drop many influential names, as well as list several of your favourite Swedish crustcore bands in the "members of" department. First 1100 copies comes in a nicely done gatefold. Alright, there are only four tracks on here but it's also available on LP is says on the back - shouldn't that be a 7" or something? Well, for some bands it should, but knowing Aguirre from before I know they're in no hurry whatsoever. Very true, these four tracks last for forty minutes - so you'd better be prepared for some doomy and gloomy stuff here. Aguirre take up twenty-five of the total number of minutes with their two tracks and just as on their demo they reek of darkness and agony. It's so present it's half painful to listen to it, but that's also what draws me in. It's like staring down a bottomless abyss of all that is evil, sensing it, as the complete black allows you to see nothing - and liking it. They haven't changed a whole lot from their demo, it's still the minimalist angst with the lonely guitar tunes alternated with thundering heaviness, as with the whispering and roaring vocals - all executed in a real slow pace. It hurts, and I love the pain. Spanish Hongo and their fifteen minutes follow the same dark path as that of Aguirre. It's dark and heavy, sounds more "neo-crust" than doom. OVERMARS from Lyon, France comes along with a perfect slab of music. the vocal attack is superb. the instrumentation is perfect! it’s a great, trance inducing section of music. the heavy vocals, the slow, pounding rhythm, the ambient touches, the way the bass creeps in has the old Venom tone. The guitar interplay with the electronics during the long, methodical building process is spot on. the next vocal section is utterly downtrodden - perfect for the music which has sort of a NEUROSIS/SOULS AT ZERO being dismantled feel. the music has a real elastic quality here with the slow drum count, the jangly guitars and the flopping bass string tone. nothing but high praise from me on this 2xLP!!! We have been fortunate enough to make a lot of friends despite barbed wire, concrete walls and insane visa rules. The Bagna crew is some of these friends and this release is something we talked about doing ever since we visited them in Belarus in 2006. This piece of vinyl is only a very small “fuck you” to the system that tries to divide us in so many ways. But it’s a “fuck you” nevertheless, a sincere one. They do what they do well enough for a couple of minutes, but are on the verge of shrivelling in Shikari’s shadow by the time their side ends, allowing you to hurriedly flip the record over for some more panic-inducing carnage…
Shikari serving staggering proof as to why they only have Takaru to worry about when it comes to frenzied, teeth-gnashing hardcore. One song is brief and deadly like a shotgun blast to the neck, separating bone from flesh whilst ranting succinctly on the subject of state-induced fear. The second number is slower, beating you about the body while discussing friends who’ve “grown up” and cast their youthful beliefs aside. Like a clash between the icy bleakness of Canucks Uranus or One Eyed God Prophecy and the Teutonic brutality of Systral, Shikari are a relentless wall of utter fucking terror that will destroy you. While pulling some influence from the likes of the Tragedy camp, this actually reminds me quite a bit of Lost as well. Its ultra fucking heavy. Like drop tuned and droning and grooving in a way that makes me swoon and sway, but up tempo enough that you never let go. The heaviness pushes on while the melodies float and the pummeling powerhouse constantly drives this. Sofies vocal style is harsh and deep and guttural. The pummeling drums and weaving guitar melodies could recall some of the familiarities of so many of my other favorites, but Ambulance have their own amazing ambiance that has me hooked and addicted and I love this as much as my latest craze of Muga. an almost complete discography of early Amen 81 stuff. On two LPs you are getting the full broadside from the complete ...zurück aus Tasmanien-LP to the Stadtfeind-10inch together with the debut EP of the band. Additionally it contains songs from their third demo-tape- by that time released under their fist name Corpus Christi and early sampler contributions. All these reissued recordings have been sold out for a long time. Corpus Christi is a very good documentation of their progress from early Deutschpunk to aggressive, pissed and fast Crust-Punk of later LPs. The lyrics have always been outstanding and played in their own league: short, direct straight-in-the-face lyrics in German without being dull or even sloganized. On the contrary, Amen 81 have always been pugnacious, complex and far away from being without critigue against the own scene. In no way they can be stuck to the dull-slogan-Deutschpunk-swamp. Rather they have created their own sound over years by always staying open for changes. On two LPs you are getting the full broadside from the complete ...zurück aus Tasmanien-LP to the Stadtfeind-10inch together with the debut EP of the band. Additionally it contains songs from their third demo-tape- by that time released under their fist name Corpus Christi and early sampler contributions. All these reissued recordings have been sold out for a long time. Corpus Christi is a very good documentation of their progress from early Deutschpunk to aggressive, pissed and fast Crust-Punk of later LPs. The lyrics have always been outstanding and played in their own league: short, direct straight-in-the-face lyrics in German without being dull or even sloganized. On the contrary, Amen 81 have always been pugnacious, complex and far away from being without critigue against the own scene. In no way they can be stuck to the dull-slogan-Deutschpunk-swamp. Rather they have created their own sound over years by always staying open for changes. Their influences reach from early Deutschpunk of the 1980s over classical hardcore up to early Anarcho-Crust-Punk. Apatia No have been going at it for some time now and this is some of the best material that they have ever released. Dual vocals over great South American style aggressive anarchist punk music with very political lyrics. Great stuff. Protestera are from Sweden and have been raging for a while too. After releasing one of the most inspiring LP's I've ever heard they follwed it up with a great 7" release and now this split. They too just seem to keep getting better and better with each release.
